Ronald Bongo: an Open Source Visionary

After years in the software industry, Ron Bongo became an early adopter of open source and all the benefits that it offered to his clients. Ron Bongo believes that the new formal partner programs will help to drive significant growth this year for his company, which was formerly a Microsoft.Net partner and then moved into the Linux open-source business in 2003 after Mr. Bongo realized the significant benefits that could be produced for clients using open-source software..

Mr. Bongo is an advocate of the Open Solutions Alliance (OSA), a non-profit, vendor-neutral consortium dedicated to promoting vendor interoperability and adoption of comprehensive open solutions. The OSA is a thriving organization, which recently announced additional members joining their Alliance. In speaking about OSA, Ron Bongo says; "In our work with more than 70 global companies, we have seen first hand the growing need for interoperability between applications in order for the true benefits of open source to be realized. The OSA represents a powerful body of technology innovators working together to solve this problem and we are excited to bring our talents and resources to this effort as a new member."

The big money benefits of Open Source

In presenting the economic benefits of open source solutions, Mr. Bongo points to a recent deal where the cost of the software license from a traditional business intelligence vendor came in at more than $100,000 compared with $20,000 for JasperSoft. "How can you better spend that $80,000 if you reallocate that to gain a strategic advantage?" he asked. "You can integrate more, customize more and build that into the overall project." Ronald Bongo estimates open source solutions as costing hundreds of thousands of dollars less than proprietary offerings for many applications.

Prior to CorraTech, Mr. Bongo directed North American business development for SymphonyRPM, providing real time performance management solutions to key vertical markets. Prior to SymphonyRPM, Mr. Bongo was founder and CEO of Financialpro.com, spearheading the early adoption of an emerging relationship management solution for financial institutions. Early in his career, as Vice President for two management consulting firms, he oversaw high profile projects for Fortune 1000 corporations, such as Honeywell, ABB, Toys R Us, Consolidated Edison and Matsushita, implementing seven figure cost-reduction strategies.
